Montenegro were always likely to take full advantage and they did - despite being far from convincing themselves. In fact Montenegro were trashed on the glass and were mediocre in their finishing from either side of the arc but they really don't care since they move to the Qualification Round.
It was an achievement that had coach Dejan Radonjic bursting with pride.
He said "I am very proud of my guys. We came here as complete outsiders and in addition, we were drawn into the toughest group of this tournament. No one could have predicted we would play overtime against Lithuania, and that we would beat Serbia and Turkey.
"Let me remind you, this generation was in 10th place in 2008 at the U18 European Championship Division B.
"We came here with the goal of avoiding relegation but now we are going to rest and start creating an atmosphere that will allow us to accomplish the best possible result.
"I believe, since we beat Serbia and Turkey, we can get one more victory that could be enough for us to make it to the quarter-finals."
Ilkan Karaman finished with a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for Turkey while Milutin Dukanovic was the one Montenegro player that did find his range - he finished with 17 points and a perfect three of three from downtown.
