GAME REPORT

Ukraine Seal Czech Fate In Group A

A disastrous offensive drought down the stretch proved costly for an under-strength Czech Republic team as they blew a major opportunity to claim an unlikely win against Ukraine in U20 European Championship Men action in Crikvenica.

With the result still hanging in the balance at 75-75, Czech Republic couldn't find a score during the last three minutes as Ukraine scored the last ten points of the game.

This latest defeat means they now have to fight for their lives in a battle to avoid the drop next week during the Relegation Round. Missing the influential services of David Jelinek, it was left to point guard Tomas Satoransky to carry the fight.

He posted 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists but his outside shot failed him and despite Ondrej Peterka stepping up to fire 23 points, the pair couldn't save their team from ending Group A winless.

For Ukraine, Ruslan Otverchenko and Oleksandr Lypovyy both sunk four triples each and combined for 42 points to make it two wins from three for their team. However, it was a powerful performance from Kyryl Natyazhko which was again a feature of their performance.

The center was superb defensively and added 4 big blocks to his double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds but was quick to deflect any personal praise onto his team-mates.

He claimed, "This is not about me, it is about my team, how team uses me.

"We got confidence by winning the first game - that helped a lot. We played hard against Greece who are the defending champions.

"All the guys fought hard and it showed us we really can play and compete against the best players in Europe.

"Now we go to the second round and we look forward to playing against the best teams. I think Group B is the best Group in the Championship this year and I think we will have our chance to go to the quarter-finals if we keep playing hard."
