GAME REPORT

Slow Starting Bulgaria Close Out Poland

Bulgaria enjoyed a great start in Group C of the U16 European Championship after a 79-53 win over Poland at Osnovna Skola Jugoslavija in Bar, Montenegro on a Thursday afternoon.

Bulgaria jump to a 1-0 record in the standings before matching up with Spain tomorrow while Poland dropped to 0-1 and will seek their debut win in the next day against Latvia.

It took Bulgaria one quarter to wake up, and a big 20-0 run in five minutes during the third period to earn the big win eventually, while Poland, other than terrible five minutes, managed to match-up for most of the game.

Deyan Karamfilov was on fire with 19 points, eight assists in addition to seven turnovers, Nikolay Stoyanov added a big double-double of 16 points and 18 rebounds while Denislav Vutev contributed 15 points and nine boards.

Daniel Szymkiewicz dominated for Poland with 17 points, nine rebounds and no less than six steals.

After four minutes it seemed like a totally different game as Bulgaria scored just a single basket and Poland held a 3-10 lead.

Entering the second period it didn't seem much brighter for Bulgaria, but glimpses of change were already spotted and in the next minutes the teams were neck-to-neck.

Inside the last 2:30 minutes of the half the Polish team still held a 21-25 lead, but witnessed Anton Dikov lead an 8-2 run to give his team the small 29-27 advantage at the break.

Poland stayed in the game for a few more minutes, and even held the lead once more, but then saw a Bulgarian attack.

In the next five minutes there was only one team on the floor as Bulgaria made a 20-0 run divided by four players.

After Poland woke up the gap was narrowed to 12 with still 6:30 to play, but it was too late for a full recovery, and until the buzzer Bulgaria extended the gap to 26.
