GAME REPORT

Violets Avoid FMP Upset

New FMP coach Bosko Djokic watched his team fight hard in Göttingen but it was the German hosts who made home advantage count with a hard fought 75-69 quarter final win.

21. Jason Boone (BG Göttingen)
Jason Boone weighed in with 10 boards, 5 of them on the offensive glass

There was little to separate the teams in a tight first quarter until Gottingen exploded to break the game open in the middle of the second quarter with a 13-5 run helping to establish a double digit advantage at 35-25.

However the visitors dug deep with a 13-2 run and a bucket by Branko Lazic handed them a 38-37 lead before a tip-in by Taylor Rochestie gave Gottingen a 41-40 advantage heading into the second half.

There was little to separate the teams in the penultimate quarter and it was FMP who led by a solitary point heading into the last ten minutes of the game at 56-55.

A dunk by Jason Boone started off the scoring for the visitors in the final quarter and it proved a good omen. A triple by Michael Meeks with just over six minutes to go made it 66-60.

The visitors weren't finished and a three-pointer by Nemanja Protic with just over 2 minutes remaining narrowed the scores at 68-67.

Four free-throws by the ice cool Rochestie steadied home nerves and a big dagger score from downtown by Robert Kulawick finally killed off FMP.

Predrag Samardziski claimed an impressive double-double of 15 points and 11 rebounds for FMP but it was a game high 24 points from Rochestie and 10 rebounds from Boone that made the difference for the home team.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BG Göttingen vs. BC FMP

FMP head coach Bosko Djokic:
"Congratulations to Göttingen and Coach Patrick. The home crowd here was excellent. It was nice to play this game here. We had our chances to win this game, especially at the end of the game. But we missed some open shots and missed some free throws. The main thing for us was defensive rebounding. Especially No 21 Boone had to a lot of offensive rebounds. We hope to be here (at Göttingen) next Wednesday again."

FMP player Nemanja Protic:
"It was a difficult game for us. We were holding on for 34 minutes but we couldn't get the win. We have no time to cry and prepare to play on Thursday."

BG Göttingen head coach John Patrick:
"It was the anticipated intense game. It was really a playoff atmosphere throughout the game and the arena. The atmosphere was really fantastic. I am very happy that so many supporters came to this game. They really made the difference. We had some bad luck in offense but we did not quit. Taylor Rochestie took things over in the second half. I am happy that we got this win against a top European basketball club even with three players out with injuries."

BG Göttingen guard Taylor Rochestie:
"We knew it would be a tough game. We had to win this by any means. We rallied together really good, helped each other out and we were able to get the win. Now we have to get ready for game 2 on Thursday."
