GAME REPORT

Göttingen Turn On The Style Against Krasnye Krylia

BG Göttingen really turned on the style in their showdown against Krasnye Krylia as they completed a second half rout of the Russian club for a convincing 89-68 victory.

Still a one-shot game at the half at 42-39, Göttingen exploded after the interval to cement their place at the summit of Group I as their rivals imploded in spectacular and rather worrying fashion.

Taylor Rochestie was the star as he recorded 22 points in as many minutes, with an excellent contribution that included a quartet of three-pointers and a flawless five of five inside.

Göttingen always held the upper hand and the most likely to win the game having eased away from a tight opening at 18-16 by scoring the last 7 points of the opening period.

They then took their lead out to double-digits at 36-26 but to their credit, the visiting team rallied and closed to within three as the teams headed for the locker rooms.

By the time both sets of players returned, it looked very quickly as if only one set were still ready to play and so it proved as Krasnye Krylia crumbled under the relentless home offence.

Ben Jacobson, Jason Boone and John Little also reached double figures for Gottingen while Marcu Douthit was the pick for the losing side with 15 points and 7 rebounds.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BG Göttingen vs. Krasnye Krylia

Mikhail Mikhailov, Krasnye Krylia coach:
"In the stats one can see why we lost this game. We committed 21 turnovers. It is impossible to win with that. I want to say that Göttingen played a good defense and showed good team play. After 25 minutes their full court press produced results. In the third quarter Göttingen made the difference. We had Ernest Bremer injure. He is the leader of our team. Congratulations to the coach of Göttingen and his team for securing the first place in the group."

Valdas Vasylius, Krasnye Krylia player:
Like Coach said we had too many turnovers. Especially in the second half we made some stupid turnovers. They had some easy lay-ups and made three point shots. We were too tired at the end. At that point the game was over for us.

John Patrick, BG Göttingen coach:
"Like Coach Mikhailov said, after 25 minutes our great physical shape became a factor. We played our style today. Every time we played at a fast pace we had a good run. As soon as the pace of the game was slower we had some problems. Especially Marcus Douthit caused some problems for us inside. They had to play without Bremer, our full court press came into full effect after 25 minutes. Taylor Rochestie gave us a huge lift from the bench. He attacked the basket and hit some big three point shots. I want to congratulate my team for reaching the quarter-final."

Taylor Rochestie, BG Göttingen player:
"We were really excited to play this game. We were fully determined to reach the quarter-finals stage in this competition. We prepared well for this game and knew what to expect playing the other team. It was a nice effort tonight. I am glad we got the win."
