GAME REPORT

EiffelTowers Overcome Slow Start, Proteas

A 21-point performance by Anthony Richardson helped EiffelTowers Den Bosch shrug off a poor start in their game with Proteas EKA AEL as they claimed a 91-79 win in Group I.

The home team found themselves trailing 28-20 after some lax defence in the opening period but a strong start to the second quarter swung the momentum in their favour.

They went on an 11-0 run to move in front at 31-28 and it was a lead they would never relinquish. By half-time they had extended their advantage to eight points and early in the third, Kees Akerboom drilled home a triple to take the lead out to double digits.

Den Bosch had a successful night from the arc shooting over 52% while Proteas laboured to keep their opponents in check despite their impressive start to the contest.

The home team strolled to victory in the second half increasing their lead to as many as 25 during the third quarter before a better fourth quarter by Proteas added a touch of respectability to the score-line.

Peter Van Paassen produced a powerful performance of 16 points and 8 rebounds while David Jansen fired four triples for his 17 points.

Courtney Fells also harvested 17 points for the visitors while Vassil Evtimov pulled down 11 rebounds.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes EiffelTowers Den Bosch vs. Proteas EKA AEL

Kyriakos Yiangoulis, Proteas coach:
"We fought hard to keep our European hopes alive, but didn't look too good in offense. We put in a good effort in the fourth quarter but couldn't make the difference. We tried but it didn't happen for us tonight."

Quincy Taylor, Proteas player:
"We started well, but they turned it on defensively after the first quarter. We take this loss against a very good team and can focus on winning our domestic league."

Don Beck, EiffelTowers coach:
"Our two most rested players, Anthony Richardson and Tristan Blackwood gave us huge energy. But I take my hat off to the whole team. We took a risk in resting the players on Monday, but they executed our defensive game plan very well. Rested and prepared we are a very good team."

Anthony Richardson, EiffelTowers player:
‘We played a great game defensively, probably one of our best. It's disappointing to go out, but now we can focus on championship."
