Maksym Pustozvonov continued his fine start to the EuroChallenge for BC Kyiv on Tuesday by scoring 20 points in an 80-72 home triumph over Keravnos.
The 22-year-old small forward is now averaging 19.3 points per game and shooting a scintillating 76.5% inside the arc, which ranks second in the competition.
He is also a scalding hot 69.2 % from three-point range, having made nine of 13.
In the Group H clash with Keravnos, his three-ball midway through the second quarter put Kyiv on top, 28-26, and they stayed in front the rest of the way.
That shot, one of his two three-pointers on the night, started a 9-0 run.
Kyiv weren't able to press home the advantage, however, and led just 54-51 early in the fourth quarter when Viacheslav Kravtsov dunked, Artem Shvets buried a three-ball and Kravtsov dunked again before hitting a jumper for a 63-51 lead with 5:29 to go.
They stayed in control the rest of the way.
Denys Lukashov finished with 14 points, seven assists and seven rebounds for Kyiv.
Keravnos, who fell to 0-3, got 14 points from Lonnie Cooper.
Panagiotis Yiannaras, Keravnos Head Coach:
"First of all I want to congratulate the BC Kyiv team, they did a good job tonight. I‘m also satisfied with the way my players performed tonight. I'm glad that they believe in themselves. Believe that we can win. Unfortunately in some moments we were unlucky tonight. But I think that if we continue to work as hard as we are doing now, our team will be better and better every day."
Jarrett Hart, Keravnos:
"The new head coach is working for only two days. But we are feeling that he already brought a new system which is working. We played against a very good team but we were competitive."
Vitaliy Cherniy, BC Kyiv Coach:
"It was very hard game for us. Today they showed character and played on a good level. First of all I mentioned our defense. But anyway I see a lot of things that we should change in our game. So we have a lot of work to do."
Denys Lukashov, BC Kyiv:
"I'm glad that we won tonight. But I'm not satisfied with the way we played - once again we made too many mistakes that we shouldn't have."
