GAME REPORT

Kyiv Crash Out Of EuroChallenge At Keravnos

Keravnos Strovolou Nicosia will not be advancing to the Last 16 in the EuroChallenge, but they gave the home crowd something to cheer about with their 76-52 demolition of BC Kyiv on Tuesday.

BC Kyiv (2-4) went into the game with the inside track to second place in Group H ahead of KK Zagreb because in their two meetings, they had a superior goal differential.

A victory would have clinched a spot in the next phase of the competition for the Ukrainians but they crashed out because not only did they lose their game, but KK Zagreb defeated Roanne Basket to finish 3-3 and come in second place.

The Cypriots were led by Bryant Smith's 18 points.

Aurimas Kieza added 13 points and 11 rebounds.

The Ukrainian team was led by Denys Lukashov's 15 points, but ultimately could not overcome the Cypriots' 33-21 rebounding advantage. Lukashov also committed seven of his team's 22 turnovers.

Keravnos took control of the game early and never trailed, outscoring Kyiv 58-22 inside the arc.

Overall, it was a balanced effort from Keravnos which had 10 players in the scoring column.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Keravnos vs. BC Kyiv

Vitaliy Cherniy - BC Kyiv Head Coach:

"First of all I want to congratulate Keravnos for their win. They played very good and deserved to win. They wanted to succeed more.

"Tonight we showed our worst self this season. Now we need to concentrate on the domestic league. Once again I want to say that Keravnos Team showed real character tonight and that is why they won this game."

Viacheslav Kravtsov - BC Kyiv Player:
"As a team we always try to play very good deference. Tonight we tried to do the same and remain close to the score (5 to 10 points deference). We only managed this in the 1st half.

"In the 4th Quarter Keravnos started to run and we could not follow their rhythm, made a lot of mistakes and lost the game. Congratulations to Keravnos."

Panayiotis Yiannaras - Keravnos Nicosia Assistant Coach:

"This was our best game so far this season. We showed real character and remained focused which is something we want to see every game. We said at the beginning of the game that we must take each quarter at a time and not look at the score difference.

"It was very important for us to control this game especially against a very young, athletic but inexperienced team. We wanted to see how the BC Kiev young players would react to pressure.

"This was a great win but unfortunately to enough for us to progress to the next round. Now we must concentrate on the domestic league and cup game."

Samuel Jones - Keravnos Nicosia Player:
"Kiev is a very good and young team. They beat us in the first game. Tonight our team showed real character that that is why we won with such a margin.

"Our Coach did a very good job and prepared us very well for this game. He told us to have patience, stay focused and play good defense. Now we focus on our games here in Cyprus and continue to improve our game."
