BC FMP won a thrilling home clash against Turkish opponents Banvit on Tuesday evening in the EuroChallenge.
Serbia international Miroslav Raduljica had 22 points and 10 rebounds and teammate Filip Covic scored nine of his 15 points in the fourth quarter as FMP claimed an 82-74 victory.
The Belgrade outfit improved to 2-0 while Banvit fell to 1-1.
Banvit trailed 64-57 two minutes into the fourth quarter after a three-pointer by the home side's Nemanja Protic, but they responded with a 5-0 run.
The Turkish outfit clawed their way back 64-62 after making five of six free-throws.
FMP kept their noses in front, but Keith Simmons' tip-in with 5:18 remaining trimmed the home team's lead to 67-64 with 5:18 left.
In reply, FMP reeled off seven straight points with Filip Covic pouring in six for a 74-65 advantage and they stayed in command the rest of the way.
Banvit remained within striking distance in the contest due in large part to their three-point shooting.
They finished the game nine of 22 (40.9%).
Inside the arc, however, they were just 13 of 26 compared to FMP's 23 of 37.
Raduljica, a silver-medal winner with the Serbians at the EuroBasket in Poland, was 10 of 14 from two-point range.
"I am satisfied with the victory today. Banvit is a great team, it has three good American players and some excellent Turkish players.
"During the first half our defense was on a lower level, however we played better in the second half, Jermic woke up and Covic played brilliant. In order to pass to the second round we would need two victories at home."
BC FMP player Miroslav Raduljica:
"We are very close to entering the second round. We fought a lot during the game and I believe that was the reason of our victory."
BC BANVIT head coach Orhun Ene:
"We didn't play good defence during the second half, BC FMP played much better during that half. I respect BC FMP because it has many good young players like Raduljica, Jeremic, Covic...
"We didnt manage to stop them and the host deservedly won.
"I hope that we will win our next game against Okapi.
BC Banvit player Goran Cakic:
"Congratulations to BC FMP. We didn't get used to the referees criterion, so we couldn't play aggressive defense. We played weaker after the series of well played matches, we need to correct mistakes and therefore win our next game against Okapi. "
