GAME REPORTVEF Riga edged Okapi Aalstar 79-76 in their EuroChallenge clash in Latvia on Tuesday night. Gregory Renfroe finished a rebound shy of a triple-double for the Latvian club. The American guard had 13 points, 13 assists and nine rebounds. Hammered by Banvit last week, VEF trailed 70-69 midway through the final quarter when they hit their Belgian opponents with a 6-0 run that put them in front to stay. Renfroe, Ingus Bankevics and Andrejs Selakovs each hit jumpers to make it 75-70. Okapi kept it close. Jamar Wilson went to the free-throw line with a chance to knot the contest with 26 seconds to play but made just one of two to leave his side behind, 77-76. Martynas Mazeika made two free-throws to take the lead back to three points for VEF. Okapi still had an opportunity to pull level but Damon Huffman put up a shot inside the arc and missed. However, the visitors grabbed the rebound and got the ball to B.J. Raymond, only for the small forward to miss from three-point range. VEF grabbed the rebound and time expired. Brian Greene poured in a game-high 24 points and also hauled in eight rebounds for Okapi, who fell to 0-2 with the defeat. |
