Andrija Zizic had 28 points and Marino Bazdaric added 22 as Cedevita Zagreb downed Proteas EKA AEL 100-82 to level their record in Group D of the EuroChallenge.
Zizic had an outstanding night, making 11 of 14 (78.6%) of his shots from the field, and also adding 12 rebounds, while Bazdaric punished Proteas with four of nine from three-point range.
Thomas Mobley also scored 16 and Jermaine Anderson added 12 in an outstanding offensive night for Cedevita, who shot a combined 38 of 67 (56.7%) on the night.
After gradually pulling further and further away throughout the game, Cedevita ended it as a contest when they used a 9-0 run early in the third quarter to make it 61-39 on Anderson's three-pointer.
Ilian Evtimov continued to put up some resistance on his way to 19 points, but there was no way back for the visitors.
Quincy Taylor finished with 17 points, while Bryan Bracey had 15 and Michalis Kounounis 12.
Michalis Kounounis, Proteas player:
"My team came to Croatia laden with many problems. We did our best, but Cedevita played good tonight. Hopefully, we will win next game and pass further. Best wishes to Cedevita in EuroChallenge and NLB league."
Marino Baždarić, Cedevita player:
"This was a very important win for us since we had to return to the winning tracks. We won by a difference which keep us in game for the second round. I think that we won this game by good offensive play. We have to make some more improvements, but we will give our best to pass further."
Yiangoullis Kyriakos, Proteas head coach:
"Cedevita had more rebounds and had more power under the basket. They wanted this win more than us. We had problems with injuries, but it cannot be our excuse. We did not play hard in defense and when you receive 100 points you cannot win the game."
Slobodan Subotić, Cedevita coach:
"We needed this win and we obtained it by better offence. It is important that we won with higher point deference than in Cyprus, in order to catch our goal, the second round. We scored 100 points without Damjan Rudež and Ivan Opačak. I am not satisfied with defense play during second half, but our offence worked great today. Žižić had an easier job today than in Cyprus because of the absence of Giannoulisa in Proteas team. Due to that fact, we gave him more usable balls under the basket, what he seized."
