Elan Chalon edged Cedevita Zagreb 80-77 to climb into the top two spots in Group D of the EuroChallenge.
Taj Allen Gray had 24 points and eight rebounds for the French team, which can claim the group's top spot if it wins next week at home to Proteas EKA AEL in a battle of teams with 3-2 records.
Zagreb and Dexia are 2-3 and still have an outside chance to qualify to the Last 16.
One of the biggest plays in Tuesday's contest came with seven seconds remaining.
Blake Schilb made the first of two free-throws to give Elan Chalon a 78-76 lead but missed the second.
Cedevita failed to box out Gray, who grabbed the offensive rebound and drew a foul.
He made one of two for a three-point lead.
Elan Chalon fouled Jermaine Anderson and the Canada point guard missed the first free-throw but made the second.
Cedevita fouled to stop the clock and Schilb made one more free-throw for the one-point triumph.

"We have another chance to win next week in Begium; we had a good opportunity to clinch victory at the end of the game tonight The players tried a lot in the second half. As it is we will need to use our chance next week in Belgium."

"It was an important game because we really needed to win. Cedevita played Zizic, who didn't play the first game against us. We had several problem tonight against them, we still made a lot of mistakes, but it is cool to win, it also gives us confidence ahead of an important game Saturday in the French League."
