Proteas EKA AEL used an 11-0 run at the start of the fourth quarter to bust open a tight game and begin their EuroChallenge Group D campaign with an 81-73 win over Cedevita.
The teams had only been seperated by a handful of points throughout the contest when they began the final period with Proteas up 63-62.
But Ioannis Giannoulis then completed an old-fashioned three-point play, completed at the free-throw line after he was fouled by Andrija Zizic while in the process of draining a jump-shot.
That was followed by a Quincy Taylor jump shot, Ilian Evitmov's lay-up and then two more baskets from Taylor before Jermaine Anderson got Cedevita back in the game with a jump-shot that made it 74-64.
Taylor scored a game-high 22 points for Proteas, adding six rebounds, while Courtney Fells scored 13 and snatched six steals and Giannoulis added 12 points.
Anderson had 19 points and seven rebounds for Cedevita, with Thomas Mobley and Damjan Rudez adding 12 points apiece.
