GAME REPORT

Pesaro Lock Up Minsk In Thrashing

Scavolini Pesaro are struggling in Italy but on Tuesday night they stormed to a second straight victory in the EuroChallenge.

The Italian club, which led from start to finish, broke open a close game in the second quarter and pulled away for an 80-49 triumph at BC "Minsk-2006".

Luca Dalmonte's side, off to an 0-8 start in Italy's Lega A, only led 19-18 when Marques Green buried a three-ball to trigger an avalanche of points for Scavolini.

Dusan Sakota followed with a trey to make it 25-19.

With the Belarus team trying to stay within striking distance, Green and Michael Hicks Taylor struck again with shots from behind the arc before Green added a lay-up to make it 35-22.

A three-ball and a lay-up by Belgium international Sam Van Rossom capped the 22-6 Scavolini run and gave the visitors a 41-24 stranglehold on the contest.

The home side briefly reduced the arrears to 16 points in the third quarter but by the end of the frame, the Scavolini advantage had ballooned to 68-35.

Dalmonte's men cruised the rest of the way.

Hicks Taylor had 19 points to top the scoring for Scavolini while Minsk had no players reach double figures in points.

Minsk were just two of 23 from long range while Scavolini were 10 of 31.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes BC "Minsk-2006" vs. Scavolini Pesaro

Luca Dalmonte (Scavolini Coach):

"Before the visit we knew that Minsk was going to play their first game at home in the European basketball tournaments after the long brake, so we prepared our players to face tough resistance. I'm happy with the result and with the energy and dedication of the players. Also I'm glad to have the opportunity to use all the players in the roster during the game."

Eric Williams (Scavolini):

"In the beginning it was quite hard to find the rhythm and get used to transition. The Belarusian team played with passion and energy, so we had to do our best to get the result."

Andrey Krivonos (Minsk 2006 Coach):

"We played well until the middle of the second quarter. But after that we lost concentration in defense, missed some important shots and failed to break their very aggressive defense. We'll try to correct our mistakes and be more competitive in the next clashes."

Dante Stiggers (Minsk 2006):

It's hard to point out one particular problem that led to the defeat.  We missed some crucial shots and weren't very impressive on our own half of the court. Hats off to the Italian guys, they did a great job, especially on defence."
