Scavolini Pesaro defeated Krasnye Krylia 92-86 in the final game of EuroChallenge Group C.
The result left both sides with 5-1 records, but the margin of victory wasn't enough to lift the Italians into first place.
Krasnye Krylia won the first meeting between the sides on December 8, 70-58.
Scavolini trailed 49-45 at half-time but outscored the visitors 28-18 in the third quarter and stayed on top the rest of the way.
Michael Hicks Taylor poured in 20 points and Branko Cvetkovic scored 17 for the winners.
Krasnye Krylia's Luis Flores had a game-high 24 points in defeat.
"For us it has been a difficult game because of the long trip. I'm very satisfied that we clinced the first position in this round against a team with an important history like Scavolini. I'm confident that we will meet again in the final four."
Samara player Ralph Biggs:
"Scavolini played a better game than ours but we are satisfied we kept the difference in points and the first position in this round."
Scavolini head coach Luca Dalmonte:
"It was a decent game against a team of good level. Our approach to the game was without big energy especially in difense, but I like the way we turned the game around."
Pesaro player Branko Cvektovic:
"We still had in our mind the match in Bologna. We did not start in the right way but we improved during the game. It would have been important to win by 13 points but we did not make it. Now we are concentrated on the next round."
