Apoel needed overtime to beat Strasbourg IG 85-83 in a thrilling victory that keeps them top of Group B in the EuroChallenge.
Brandon Heath was the hero with seven of the eight points his team scored in the extra period.
Apoel surrendered a seven-point advantage late in the final quarter as Strasbourg tied the game 75-75 and forced the extra period.
The visitors then jumped out to an early lead through Benjamin McCauley's three-pointer and, after Heath got two back from the free-throw line, a Tremmell Darden jump-shot that put them on top 80-77.
But Apoel clawed their way back. Lewis Hopkins split a pair of free throws and Heath then tied it with a driving lay-up with 3:02 on the clock.
Another lay-up from Heath put them in front and they kept their advantage as Sacha Giffa could only make one from the free-throw line for Strasbourg.
Heath then nailed a three-pointer to make it 85-81 with 1:34 to go, and although Thomas Heurtel responded with a lay-up, McCauley missed a jump-shot and Steeve Essart was off-target with a three-pointer as time expired.
It was a tough game. Both teams had the same chance winning. We were lucky in the last 20 seconds. Our players were very tired towards the end which need to correct. It was a big win for us. Congratulations to both teams. We now have a good chance to qualify and even for the first position.
APOEL CAPTAIN GERBEN VAN DORBE:
We were very strong in defence in the first half. We lost our composure and allowed the opponents to come back to the game. We made some silly mistakes towards the end.
STRASBOURG HEAD COACH FREDERIC SARRE:
It was a tough game. Two-three things in offence made the difference. I do not want to mention anything about the referrees but some little things made the difference.
STRASBOURG PLAYER SACHA GIFFA:
It was a good and tough game. Apoel was the best team of the group. Both teams played for the first place. It was a really hard game.
