GAME REPORT

Buducnost Hold Off Resilient Göttingen

KK Buducnost got 17 points from Marko Simonovic in a 92-84 victory over MEG Göttingen on Tuesday night in EuroChallenge Group A.

The Montenegrin team placed five players in double-figures and held off the Violets, who were looking for their third straight win to open the campaign.

Buducnost led 42-37  at half-time after some sharp shooting from behind the arc and eventually opened up a 13-point lead late in the third quarter.

Ben Jacobson, who paced the Violets with 16 points, turned the momentum of the game with a three-pointer leading to a 15-0 run and a 60-58 lead for the visiting German team. With 41 seconds remaining in the third quarter.

Buducnost responded, however, with a 14-0 run of their own to re-energize the home crowd.

Chester Frazier's jumper pulled Göttingen back to within 83-80 with just over a minute to go, but the Montenegrin outfit put the game away by making nine of 10 free throws down the stretch.

Overall, Buducnost collected 38 points from the free-throw line, hitting 83% of their attempts.

The German side will look to bounce back at home next week as they play Lokomotiv Kuban (0-3), while Buducnost (2-1) will face BCM Gravelines Dunkerque (2-1).

COACH QUOTES

Quotes KK Buducnost vs. MEG Göttingen

Dejan Radonjic, Buducnost Coach:

"It was the game that we expected it to be. Considering the fact that we had a short period of time for adaption for their atypical basketball I think that we managed to prepare very well for the way they play. "

Goran Jeretin, Buducnost:

"Almost all players were in double digits and I don't consider that I was the MVP of the match. Yes, I made a few points and dished some assists in decisive parts of the game but it was teams' victory. All of the players gave their best and we achieved a very important victory and continued the winning streak."

John Patrick, MEG Head Coach:

"It was very intense game today. Both teams played with a great amount of energy, both on offense, defense and rebounding. The key factor for Buducnost was Jeretin with his experience and also the big men were hitting outside shots.  Simonovic and Dragicevic hit the three-pointers and also Vitkovac and Savovic were making outside shots that we didn't expect. We have to evaluate why we backed-down why we let another team to play harder than us, to get more rebounds."

Chris Oliver, MEG:

"It always hurts to suffer your first lost. They came out more aggressive then we did at the beginning. Then we fought back hard and stayed together. They scored free throws we missed a few shots and that was the game. We never expected to lose."
