|Sandrine Gruda contributed 13 points for her side|
American superstar Candace Parker powered UMMC Ekaterinburg to a big win over Good Angels Kosice in the opening leg of their EuroLeague Women quarter-final play-off.
Parker came up with 21 points and 14 rebounds as UMMC dominated their visitors in an 81-56 victory.
Svetlana Abrosimova added 14 points, Sandrine Gruda had 13 and Cappie Pondexter 11 for the victors.
Kosice struggled to get anything going offensively throughout, shooting only 16 of 51 (31.3%) from two-point range. Candice Dupree led the scorers with 13 points, while Ivana Jalcova and Angel McCoughtry had 12 each.
Good Angels Kosice Forward Ivana Jalcova:
It was a hard game for us. We played well for the first 25 minutes, but then we missed some lay-ups and fast breaks. We can learn much from this game. I hope we'll play better at home.
Good Angels Kosice head coach Stefan Svitek:
The UMMC's bench is longer than ours, so they can rotate more players. We opposed UMMC in the first half, but later they made fast break and outplayed us in rebounds. UMMC has a lot of arms and strong players. It's hard to predict the way such players as Stepanova or Wauters will play. However, at home our fans behind us will help us, so we'll try to make it difficult for Ekaterinburg to win. We'll try to keep the level we've played in the first half.
UMMC head caoch Gundars Vetra:
I think, a weak team cannot qualify for the Quarterfinal. Good Angels play even better than they seem to do. They played well in defense. It's understandable, that our team is more talented, so they chose an agressive style in order to resist us. Thus the start of the match was hard for us. Step by step we stretched our advantage and showed who is who in this game.
