Wisla Can-Pack Krakow shut down MiZo Pecs in the second half and claimed an 80-53 triumph in the opening game of the EuroLeague Women Eighth-Finals Play-off.
Jose Hernandez's team, surprise winners of Group B with nine victories and just one defeat, are now just a win away from a place in the Quarter-Finals.
|Marta Fernandez did most of the damage in the first half with 9 points at the break|
It was close at half-time, with Marta Fernandez's jump shot giving Wisla a 42-37 lead and giving her nine points in the game.
Dalma Ivanyi drilled a three-pointer early in the second half to cut the Wisla lead to 44-40, but the wheels then fell off for the visitors from Hungary.
For Wisla, Ewelina Kobryn buried a jumper and Iziane followed with two straight baskets - the second a three-ball - before Janell Burse scored to cap the 9-0 spurt and take her points haul to 13.
Her jump shot made it 53-40 in favor of Wisla and the home side then played as if the floodgates had been opened, scoring at will.
When it was over, Wisla had restricted MiZo to a mere 16 points in the second half.
Burse, voted to the Rest of the World Team for the All-Star Game, finished with 17 points and nine rebounds while Liron Cohen added 16 points, Iziane 13 and Fernandez, a member of the European Team starting line-up at the All-Star Game, had 11.
Wisla out-rebounded their opponents 41-23 and they also hit nine of 23 shots from long range.
MiZo struggled, making four of 16 from behind the arc.
Nicole Ohlde led MiZo with 14 points and 10 boards.
MiZo Pecs coach Akos Fuzy:
"We were not able to stand the second half in which the home team played the exelent defence. All the home Team players were great and we played without Vajda who has been injured. Congratulations to WISLA and to home fans for the great atmosphere! We will try to win on Friday and to come back to Krakow."
Wisla head coach JoséHernandez:
"I am happy. It was probably our best game in that season-especially in defence in the second half. This was only the first step and the second must be done - I hope on Friday in Pecs. Thanks to our fans - they were like our sixth player!"
