Bourges are finally able to celebrate after beating Rivas Ecópolis 66-58 on Wednesday evening to clinch a spot in the EuroLeague Women post-season.
Emmeline Ndongue had 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners, who improved to 5-5 and sealed a fourth-place finish in Group C.
Rivas, newcomers to the competition, had won their first seven games but they have now suffered three straight defeats.
Javier Fort's side will enter the Eighth-Final Play-offs as the winners of Group C.
Bourges went in front to stay with a 12-2 first-quarter run that gave them a 12-4 advantage.
After going to half-time with a 33-24 lead, the hosts extended that to 47-33 on an Essence Carson jumper.
An Anna Cruz three-pointer trimmed the gap to 49-45 early in the fourth quarter only for Bourges' Paoline Salagnac to answer immediately with a jumper.
Jennifer Digbeu then knocked down a three-pointer for the French for a 54-45 lead.
After going in front by 10, Bourges saw Rivas cut the gap to 61-55 with 2:48 remaining but they got no closer.
Endene Miyem and Carson contributed 13 points apiece for Bourges.
Rivas got nine points and nine rebounds from Crystal Langhorne with Cruz and Catherine Joens each scoring nine points.
Javier FORT, Rivas Ecopolis Coach:
"Tonight we had big problems on offense because of a very good defense of Bourges. The key of the game was for sure the rebounds. We gave too many second chance to Bourges. They scored maybe 20 points after an offensive rebound. We scored only three. If we play our best basket we can win all the games but if we don't play 100 % every team can beat us especially good teams as Bourges."
Pierre VINCENT, Bourges Basket Coach:
"Even if I knew at the half time we were qualified I didn't tell to the players because it's more important to play for winning without taking care of the other results. It's also interesting to play these kind of very important games with no security. If you lose you are dead. Tonight we saw big changes when you compare to our play in October. The girls stayed focused during all the game.
We controlled the dangerous players and did a great defense game. Now we are qualified and we begin a new championship."
