MKB Euroleasing Sopron upset Rivas Ecópolis 71-67 in Spain on Thursday to strengthen their hopes of reaching the EuroLeague Women Last 16.
Amber Holt scored 18 points and had the go-ahead three-ball with 1:46 remaining for the visitors from Hungary.
That shot made it 68-67 in favor of Sopron.
Petra Ujhelyi then turned the ball over on two of Rivas' next three possessions, and MKB Euroleasing sank three free-throws to seal the victory.
Sopron improved to 4-5 and set up an interesting last week in Group C because Bourges and ZVVZ USK Prague are also 4-5.
Rivas (7-2) have already clinched first place in Group C.
They blew their chances on Thursday when making just 13 of 24 shots at the free-throw line.
Crystal Langhorne finished with 19 points and nine rebounds for Rivas.
Sopron head coach Norbert Székely:
"We have demonstrated we are a very hard team and we have be able to make a very good shots at the end of the match . We have played together very well and we could play our best basketball today. In the first half we started very bad because they played very good defense but the second one we played our offensive systems better and in the last quarter we could change our way of playing and we were able to tie-up the match."
Sopron guard Maja Miljkovic:
"It has been a very difficult game with a lot of pressure for us and for that reason we have began with some doubts but after this we have begun to play with all our heart. The difference has been only one basket but it could win any team."
Rivas head coach Javier Fort:
"It has been the classical Euroleague match with a very close score. We haven´t played at our usual level during he first and the second quarters but I think we have played as we like he rest of the game although Sopron have been better than our team at the final."
Rivas player Jelena Dublijevic:
"It has been a very hard match for us and I think it could be won by any team. We haven´t played at our best level and they were more perfect than us."
