Gorzow Upset Bourges To
Taste Victory For First
Time

KSSSE AZS-PWSZ Gorzow grinded out a 49-39 win over Bourges in what is certain to be one of the lowest scoring games of the season in the EuroLeague Women.

The Polish outfit made history with the result as it marked their first-ever win in the competition.

Their outstanding American, Sidney Spencer, had 12 points and four rebounds while Samantha Richards also excelled with 12 points and three assists.

Poland international Justyna Zurowska led the Gorzow defense by coming up with a game-high three steals.

The home side led from start to finish, with Spencer pouring in their first eight points to set the tone.

She buried a three-ball to start proceedings and after Essence Carson replied with a jump shot for Bourges, Spencer hit the visitors with another three-pointer.

Spencer capped her 8-0 spurt with a jump shot inside arc for an 8-2 advantage and Gorzow had the lead for good.

The advantage ballooned to 16-5 late in the first quarter and grew to 34-16 late in the second after a basket by Izabela Piekarska.

The home side went ice cold in the third quarter and scored just five points  but Bourges still trailed 39-30 heading into the last 10 minutes.

Pierre Vincent's side got no closer.

Bourges dropped to 2-2 in Group C while Gorzow improved to 1-3.

Endene Miyem had 11 points and eight rebounds in defeat.

Gorzow vs. Bourges Basket

Pierre Vincent, coach Bourges Basket:

"We lost and I am sad. I knew, that game would take place in a small hall, where fans are very loud. We also knew that this was Gorzow's first year in EuroLeague. I told players, that they have to be concentrated. But we got from Gorzow team a lesson today."

Dariusz Maciejewski, KSSSE Coach:

"I saw at EuroBasket Women the games of France and Latvia. It helped in preparation to this game. It's historical victory which we dedicate to our fans."
