Cras Basket Taranto rolled to a 70-59 victory in a battle of 0-2 teams at TTT Riga on Wednesday night in EuroLeague Women Group A.
Roberto Ricchini's side went in front by as many as 21 points in the third quarter and 23 in the fourth before settling for an 11-point triumph.
Cras reeled off the first 10 points of the game and led from start to finish in the rout.
TTT Riga, who nearly upset Galatasaray last week, showed great fight when they clawed their way back to trail 25-22 two minutes into the second quarter after a three-point play by Lyndra Weaver.
Cras outscored the home side 17-5 up to half-time, though, to lead 42-27 and they stormed to a decisive win.
Jami Montagnino poured in 12 of her 17 points in the first half for Cras while Rebekkah Brunson had 11 of her 17 before the break.
Montagnino was five of 10 from long range while Cras were six of 14 as a team.
Cras out-rebounded TTT Riga 45-36, with Brunson pulling down a game-high 17.
France's EuroBasket Women gold-medal winner Elodie Godin had 14 rebounds to go with her six points for the visitors.
Riga got 14 points from Lisa Willis while Cindy Lima finished with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Italian side will find the going much harder next week when they host Spanish powerhouse Ros Casares while Riga will go up against TEO Vilnius.
Rebekkah BRUNSON, Taranto:
"It was a good game, hard for both teams. We have been building as a team each game and it paid off. Hopefully we can just build on this and get better."
Roberto RICCHINI, Taranto Head Coach:
"It was a difficult match because both teams have zero points after first two games. We knew that Riga in the match with Galatasaray demonstrated that it is a good team."
Dita KRŪMBERGA, TTT Riga:
"We started the game really bad, the other team went ahead 10-0. It was a blow for us. We continued to fight and we showed in the second half that we can play and compete. We need to get more defensive rebounds, also improve our communication in defense."
Ainars CUKSTE, TTT Riga Head Coach:
"Our poor start made an impact on the outcome of the whole game. I have no explanation why. We had a lot of information about Taranto, we knew about their snipers and Rebekkah Brunson. We won the second half when we played with one post player and four outside players, probably we need to change our tactics. Our inside players doesn`t score to much."
