Galatasaray Ruin Riga’s
Night In Fourth Quarter

TTT Riga suffered a fourth-quarter collapse at home in EuroLeague Women Group A and lost 66-60 to Galatasaray on Wednesday evening.

Taking on the 2008-09 EuroCup Women winners from Turkey, Riga were eager to return to the floor after suffering a season-opening 118-38 defeat at Ros Casares and all was going according to plan through three quarters.

Late in the period, they had a 48-40 advantage but the Riga defense disappeared over the final 10 minutes.

Galatasaray poured in 24 fourth-quarter points and went on to claim their second victory in the competition this season.

Sophia Young hit the go-ahead jump shot with 4:18 remaining in the game, making it 56-54 for the visitors.

Young finished with 30 points and five rebounds for Galatasaray, who won their opener last week against Cras Basket Taranto.

Lyndra Weaver poured in 25 points in defeat for Riga.

COACH AND PLAYER QUOTES

Quotes TTT Riga vs.
Galatasaray

Yelena LEUCHANKA, Galatasaray:

"I`m happy for the win. We knew that the game would be a really tough one. We didn't play good defense in the first half, we had to move ball more, improve our passing skills. Overall we have some things to work on."

Zafer KALAICIOGLU, Head Coach Galatasaray:

"Our team is better than last year. One of the reasons is a tough national championship. Maybe after Russia, the Turkish league TBBL is the best league in Europe. More than 20 WNBA players play in Turkey each year. No one knows the result in advance. I was coaching "Fenerbahce" in four EuroLeague Women campaigns and now I believe we can achieve good results with Galatasaray. We have experienced players."

Aija BRUMERMANE, TTT Riga:

"I`m really disappointed with our loss. We were better in many positions, however we made too many turnovers. We need to improve in all components of the game, practice hard, work hard to succeed in every game. A lot of things to work on."

Ainars CUKSTE, Head Coach TTT Riga:

"We lost due to many turnovers. There are no excuses not to pass the ball and for the poor dribbling. Only one of our players - Aija - has real experience in EuroLeague Women. We completely stopped in the end, get lost and it cost us the game. I didn`t liked the last quarter."
