UMMC Back On Track After
Win Over Gala

UMMC Ekaterinburg got rid of their Ros Casares hangover in the best possible way on Wednesday by knocking off previously unbeaten Galatasaray 69-54 in EuroLeague Women Group A.

Hammered 87-68 in Spain last week by Ros, UMMC got on top of Galatasaray in the first quarter and went on a decisive run in the third.

UMMC took the lead for good when Maria Stepanova caught a pass from Sandrine Gruda and scored to make it 16-14 with 2:27 to go in the opening frame.

Cappie Pondexter followed with a three-point play and after Deanna Nolan hit a jump shot and Pondexter drilled a three-pointer to cap the 10-0 run, the lead was 24-14.

The advantage ballooned to 37-21 with 1:18 remaining in the first half before UMMC went to the changing rooms on top, 37-25.

Galatasaray closed to 43-36 with 4:09 to go in the third quarter but UMMC then delivered the knockout punch with three-balls from Agnieszka Bibrzycka and Pondexter.

Another jump shot by Bibrzycka took the lead to 51-36.

UMMC extended the advantage to 69-51 with 1:05 remaining before settling for a 15-point triumph.

Stepanova had 12 of her game-high 18 points in the first quarter with Pondexter contributing 15 in the game and Nolan 13.

Poland international Bibrzycka walked off the floor with 10 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.

For Galatasaray, former UMMC center Yelena Leuchanka and Sophia Young each had 14 points.

Young corralled a team-high 10 boards.

Ekaterinburg finished seven of 12 from long range while Galatasaray were four of 21.
