GAME REPORT

Poland Outrebound Germany, Take Win

Poland defeated neighbours Germany 74-65 in their opening fixture after cleaning up on the glass with an extraordinary rebounding performance although much of that was made possible by some disappointing shooting by Germany.

Beata Jaworska took full advantage with a fantastic double-double performance of 20 points and 13 boards while team-mate Wioletta Wisiniewska jut missed out on that particular accolade with 9 points and 10 rebounds.

The Polish team edged the first quarter 17-14 with neither team able to showcase their outside shooting and that meant a feast for the rebounders . While there was little daylight between both teams in the early stages, Poland began to slowly take control with the bench showing that they have depth by contributing 10 points to put Poland 39-29 ahead at the break.

Much as they tried, Germany couldn't make any real impression in the third though Sophie Eder tried her best and she didn't deserve to be on the losing side after ending up with 20 points and being the only German player to consistently make a shot.

However it wasn't enough, even as Poland had a succession of players fouling out of the game. They simply continued mopping up under the glass and ensured they could stroll to a comfortable win.
