GAME REPORT

Slow Starting Serbia Cruise Past Czechs

Serbia awoke from an early slumber to beat the Czech Republic 74-56 at the U18 European Championship Men 2009 in Hagondange, France.

The Czechs got off to a dream start taking a 16-9 lead by the end of the first quarter thanks to some fine play from Vojtech Bratcenkov.

And they maintained that seven-point cushion early in the second period as Serbia looked as though they were just going through the motions.

But once Vladimir Jovanovic's men woke up and tightened their defense, the Czechs' dream turned into a nightmare.

Serbia's offense improved as well as Dejan Musli and Petar Torlak spearheaded a 12-3 to take a 24-19 lead and eventually went into the break with a 31-25 lead.

Musli and Branislav Djekic made sure that Serbia came out strong in the third quarter, hitting the first two baskets for a 34-25 score.

Danilo Andjusic connected from long-range for a 41-30 advantage midway through the period and while the Czech Republic did creep back to within 10, 64-54 on Milan Jaros' shot with 2:41 left to play, it proved another wake-up call as Serbia finished the game on a 10-2 run.

Musli and Djekic both had 16 points each while Bratchenkov had a team-high 15 for the Czechs.
