Proteas Deliver First-Half Knockout Against Siauliai

25.11.2008
Proteas EKA AEL demolished BC Siauliai 102-76 in their EuroChallenge Regular Season opener on Tuesday in Limassol.

Quincy Taylor led the way with 27 points for Limassol, who beat BC Donetsk and Banvit in the first two qualifying rounds, respectively.

Dragan Raca's Proteas forced their opponents from Lithuania to turn the ball over 25 times.

The home side also did a lot of damage from long range, hitting 11 of 23 shots.

Taylor was a perfect four of four from behind the arc.

The game was tied when Darrel Mitchell made a lay-up for Proteas to give the home side a 19-17 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Taylor drilled a three-pointer and then scored on an alley-oop to make it 24-17 and Proteas stayed in front the rest of the way.

They were only in front at 24-23 when a Haris Mujezinovic three-point play sparked a 7-0 run.

The surge that killed Siauliai happened over the final three and a half minutes of the first half.

Leading 37-31, Taylor made a lay-up and drew a foul. He converted the three-point play and his team ended up going on a 13-2 run for a 50-33 advantage at the break.

Mujezinovic gave the visitors something to think about at half-time because the last points of the first half came from his dunk.

Proteas pulled away in the second half for a decisive triumph.

Milan Dozet scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the winners.
