Strong Third Quarter Pushes Ural Great Past Bonn
// 07 January 2009

Ural Great Perm hit the Group B summit in the EuroChallenge and clinched a spot in the Top 16 with a 70-64 triumph at Telekom Baskets Bonn.

The Russian outfit improved to 4-1 with the victory.

Trailing 37-34 early in the third quarter, Darius Vashington scored four points in a 6-0 run that put the Ural Great in front for good.

The Perm side went on to outscore Telekom Baskets 24-10 in the third quarter and stayed in front for the remainder of the game.

Alexey Surovtsev scored 25 points for Ural Great, who overcame a woeful eight of 16 effort at the free throw line to win.

Telekom Baskets hurt their own cause at the charity stripe, making only 17 of 28 (60.7%).

Brandon Kyle Bowman finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists for Bonn, who fell to 2-3 but can still advance to the Top 16 with a good result at SAOS Hyeres in their final group game.

The German outfit won the first meeting between the sides back on December 10, 71-61.

SAOS Hyeres will go into the game with three wins and two defeats.

Quotes Telekom Baskets vs. Ural Great
// 07 January 2009

Michael Koch, Head Coach (Telekom Baskets Bonn):

"Unfortunately the result from the Toulon-game one day before was known. So it was clear that the game tonight was not so important for us. Nevertheless we wanted to win the game but we could not play like in the past games we had in the german bundesliga. 18 turnovers were to much tonight. Perm is a very strong team and we did not play smart enough in the offense. We have to get used to our smaller rotation but this gives an opportunity for each other player."

Roman Dvinyaninov, Head Coach (Ural Great Perm):

"This was a very tough game for us tonight. There is a big distance between the two cities Perm and Bonn so we had a lot of time to prepare on this game. We are very happy that we reached the next round with this away victory."

Eearl Jerrod Rowland, Player (Telekom Baskets Bonn):

"I do not think that Ural Great Perm dominated the game very much. We had the chance to win the game, but we had too many turnovers and missed too many shots. I am the pointguard of this team so I am responsible for this loss. Next week in France we have all chances to get to the next round."

Vanja Plisnic, Player (Ural Great Perm):

"It was very important for us to win this game tonight. We knew that Bonn is one of the best teams in Germany, but we were well prepared for this game. One of the reasons for our win was, that we had some lucky shots. The last weeks were hard for us because we had some tough games in Russia too."
