GAME REPORT

Ural Hammer SAOS Hyeres To Stay Top

Ural Great remained in pole position in EuroChallenge Group B with an impressive 84-76 triumph at home over SAOS Hyeres.

The win has given the Perm side a 3-1 record while dropping the French club to 2-2.

Alexey Surovtsev and Vanja Plisnic combined for 46 points for Ural Great - more than half of the team's output.

The Russian team opened up a 39-25 lead with 4:14 remaining in the first half when Surovtsev tipped in Jumaine Jones' miss from three-point range.

That basket gave Surovtsev 12 points for the first half.

French club Hyeres responded, however, with an 18-5 run bridging the second and third quarters to trail 44-43.

That surge was capped by Pierre Pierce's jump shot with 8:27 to go in the third quarter which took his tally to 13.

The basket woke up Ural Great because they reeled off the next nine points, all of them scored by either Plisnic or Sergey Chernov, for a 53-43 lead with 4:48 to go in the third frame.

This time, Roman Dvinyaninov's men pressed home the advantage.

They took a 59-45 lead with 2:35 to go in the quarter and stretched that to 79-55 with 6:37 to go in the game.

The hosts eased up, and Hyeres managed to out-score them 21-5 the rest of the way to lose by just eight.

Plisnic and Surovtsev each poured in 23 points for Ural Great while Hrvoje Perincic had 20 and both Pierce and Austin Nichols 16 apiece.

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Ural Great Perm vs. SAOS Hyeres Toulon

Alain Weisz, coach of SAOS Hyeres:

"Our win in the first game was a surprise for us. We expected that Ural Great would like to make up for their loss in France. The host team played very well, especially in defense. Today we were missing three of our players so the result might not be so bad in the end. Our young players performed well today."

Romain Dardaine, player of SAOS Hyeres:

"We didn't play well in the first half of the game. But after the break we started to be stronger. The result one can see in the stats."

Roman Dvinyaninov, coach of Ural Great:

"At some stage we held a twenty points lead. But we relaxed, stopped playing defense and pulling rebounds. I gave a chance to our bench to show what they can do. We won this game and this victory gives us a chance to qualify to the next round."

Alexey Surovtsev, player of Ural Great:

"It was a hard game. We needed to win today. And we had a very comfortable lead but relaxed in the last quarter. Now we will try to win the remaining two games which we have to play on the road in Germany and Cyprus."
