Polish outfit Energa Czarni led from start to finish in a 91-75 triumph over BK Ventspils in EuroChallenge action on Tuesday.
Demetric Bennett had 19 points and five rebounds for the winners, who improved to 1-1 in Group A while dropping Latvians Ventspils to 0-2.
Ventspils only trailed 19-17 late in the first quarter but Energe Czarni closed the first quarter on an 8-0 run.
The home side extended the lead to 47-30 with 2:11 left in the first half only for Ventspils to go to the break trailing 49-37.
The Baltic outfit briefly reduced the deficit to five early in the third quarter but ended up trailing 79-59 by the end of the frame as Czarni, who shot 13 of 27 from long range, pulled away for a big triumph.
Jason Straight drilled four of six shots from behind the arc and finished with 18 points.
Pavels Veselovs scored 18 and Janis Strelnieks 16 in defeat.
BK Ventspils Head Coach Algis Galvanovskis:
"Congratulations to Coach Okorn, my colleague from last season in Ventspils. It would be very hard to win against the team that shoots so well from three. We have only young and local players, since our foreigners are injured, so it's hard to play on this level, especially on the road, but we will try to improve."
Energa Czarni Head Coach Gasper Okorn:
"We are happy after this win, it was a lot of emotions because I spent a very good year in Ventspils last season. Ventspils lost to Liege at home, but I had told my players that this result is not a true picture of the Latvian team. They can surprise people. I am happy today with how we played on offence, but I cannot be happy how we played on defence. If we want to do something in EuroChallenge we must win in Belgium and play well for the rest of the group stage."
Pavels Veselovs, BK Ventspils Player:
"We lacked concentration at the beginning and we didn't execute our game plan. They shot a lot of three-pointers and it was the key to their success."
Rolando Howell, Energa Czarni Player:
"We played very well on offence, that was a good game for the fans. We have to improve on defence. We had problems at the beginning of the second half, but after a few minutes we went together and won by good margin."
