EWE Baskets Oldenburg delivered a first-quarter knockout jab in their EuroChallenge Qualifying Round 2 opener with Borac Nektar on Tuesday.
The hosts thrilled their German fans by outscoring Borac Nektar 23-8 in the opening 10 minutes and used that terrific start as a launchpad for a 76-46 triumph.
Ewe Baskets had a 42-18 stranglehold on the game with 2:22 to go in the first half and they cruised the rest of the way.
Jasmin Perkovic and Rickey Paulding Jr each had 15 points to lead a balanced Ewe Baskets attack.
Perkovic was three of four from three-point range for Predrag Krunic's team.
The second leg will be played on November 11 in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Predrag Krunic, EWE Baskets (Coach):
"Congratulations to my team. We played well and had an excellent performance in defense. Borac Nektar had some great games in their league."
"I told my team to be concentrated for the whole 40 minutes. We have a nice run at the moment and want to take the games step by step. It was not always easy to keep the rhythm during the 40 minutes but we did it."
Jason Gardner, EWE Baskets (Player):
"Our big men had a great day in rebounding and in defense. Borac Nektar missed their shots in the beginning and we hit ours. That made the difference. In Banja Luka we will play against a better team."
Milos Pejic, Borac Nektar (Coach):
"Congratulations to EWE Baskets Oldenburg. We knew before, that they have a great team and high quality. For us it was too much here. We were impressed by the whole atmosphere. There are a lot of ways to loose a game - this one was bad."
"EWE Baskets is a very, very strong opponent."
Josko Garma, Borac Nektart (Player):
"Congratulations to EWE Baskets. We played very bad tonight. Our problem was not that much tactic-wise; it was more a problem of showing no heart. That made it impossible to have a better result."
