Ewe Baskets Oldenburg made sure their first-ever game in Europe was memorable by romping to an 86-60 win at U-Mobitelco on Tuesday in the EuroChallenge Qualifying Round 1.
Barring a catastrophic return leg for the German outfit, they will advance to the next stage of the competition.
Ricky Paulding Jr finished with 20 points and five rebounds for the Bundesliga team which hit an impressive 10 of 28 (35.7%) from long range and a phenomenal 23 of 35 (65.7%) inside the arc.
The visitors opened up a 21-16 advantage by the end of the opening quarter and went to the changing rooms at half-time on top at 40-30.
They extended the lead even more in the third quarter before delivering the knockout punch over the final 10 minutes when they outscored their hosts 25-15.
Jekel Foster poured in 18 points and Jason Gardner 15 for Ewe Baskets.
Veteran guard Branko Cuic had 17 points for the Romanian team, who were just five of 15 from long range and 16 of 38 from two-point range.
EWE Baskets Oldenburg will make history on Tuesday when they take on U-Mobilteco in the EuroChallenge Qualifying Round 1 in Romania.
Oldenburg, who play in the German Bundesliga, will play in its first-ever game in a European competition.
"We are excited about this game," coach Predrag Krunic said. "It is a new experience for the whole club."
Oldenburg is a city in the north of Germany and 20 of Ewe Baskets' fans will make the long journey to Cluj to support the team.
The team has won two of its first four games in Germany's top flight, including an 89-75 win at Bremerhaven over the weekend.
The two losses suffered by Ewe Baskets to Telekom Baskets Bonn and Köln 99ers were by a combined five points.
