GAME REPORT

Free Throws Crucial As Crispin Leads Banvit To Win

Joe Crispin poured in 12 of his team-high 21 points in the fourth quarter as Turkish outfit Banvit held off a comeback attempt by CSU Atlassib to win their EuroChallenge Qualifying Round 1 first-leg tie 74-67.

Banvit only led 33-30 with 54 seconds to go in the first half but then went on a 16-0 run to seemingly take control.

A Crispin jump shot and an Antoine Marcus Agudio three-ball right at the half-time buzzer extended the advantage to 38-30.

The visitors then reeled off the first 11 points after the restart and went in front by as many as 19 points in the third quarter.

The Romanian club reduced the deficit to 53-39 when Cortney Jermain Scott buried a three.

CSU Atlassib's Michael Lee Harrison fouled Crispin when he was attempting a three-ball with six seconds left in the quarter, though, and he made all the free throws to extend the lead back to 56-39.

The fans in Romania were then treated to a thrilling last 10 minutes as Scott, Harrison, Brandon Johnson and Chad Bell poured in the points and almost brought the home side all the way back.

They limited Banvit to just two points over the first seven and a half minutes of the final quarter to close the gap to 58-56.

Lance Williams stopped the rot for Banvit with jumper for a 60-56 lead.

Crispin then scored his 12 fourth-quarter points - six at the free throw line - to see Banvit to victory.

Scott had a game-high 23 points in defeat for Atlassib, who lost despite out-rebounding their opponents 50-41.

The free throw shooting played a major part in the outcome, with Banvit 23 of 26 in the game compared to Atlassib's 13-of-25 effort at the line.

Crispin was nine of nine at the stripe while for Atlassib, Scott only made six of 11 and Bell missed all four of his attempts.

Neither team shot the ball well from long range. Atlassib were just four of 29 from behind the arc and Banvit three of 21.

The teams will meet again next Tuesday in Turkey for the second leg.
