Brooke Queenan made two free throws with just two seconds remaining to lift MiZo Pécs 2010 to a 61-60 upset of Group B winners Umana Reyer Venezia in Italy.
In the opening game of EuroLeague Women Eighth-Finals tie between the sides, Queenan was fouled by recent Umana Reyer signing Essence Carson and made the most of the opportunity.
Carson had played for TTT Riga during the Regular Season but the Latvian team failed to reach the play-offs and Umana Reyer added her to their roster.
She had a game to forget.
With 14 seconds to go, Umana Reyer were in a strong position after Mariangela Cirone made two free throws for a 60-57 lead.
Mery Andrade fouled Dalma Ivanyi, who sank both free throws to cut the deficit to one.
Ivanyi then fouled Carson, who shot 80.8% from the line for Riga but the American missed both shots before committing the foul that put Queenan on the line for the game winning free throws.
Ivanyi had 17 points and 12 rebounds for MiZo
Akos Fuzy, MiZo Pec Head Coach:
"We were tired at the end but we won and we don't want to return to Venice. Our players didn't play as well as they should have but we won anyway."
Dalma Ivanyi, MiZo Pec Player:
"We played with heart and that allowed us to win. We are very happy but I think friday will be very difficult."
Massimo Riga, Umana Reyer Head Coach:
"Congratulations to Pecs. We are two teams that are the same, that never give up. Friday we have nothing to lose and we want to return to Venice to play last game."
