Raffaella Masciadri made the go-ahead three-pointer in the fourth quarter to help fire Beretta Famila to an 81-76 triumph over a determined Lattes Montpellier on Wednesday in EuroLeague Women Group D.
Beaten in their first game at two-time defending champions Spartak Moscow Region last week, the Italian club returned home and captured an important win although they were in a dogfight to the end.
A jump shot by Elodie Bertal knotted the game at 60-60 with 6:27 remaining but 16 seconds later and Masciadri struck with a three-pointer to spark a 7-0 scoring burst for the Italian team.
Montpellier hung though, though, and when Sheana Coreen Mosch drilled a three with 4:15 to go, they only trailed 67-64.
Laura Macchi answered with a three-pointer for the Schio club.
The French team once more closed the gap to three with 1:40 remaining on a basket by Khadijah Whittington, but Macchi and Masciadri each replied with two free throws as the Italians kept their noses in front.
Macchi had 20 points, Masciadri 18 and French center Nicole Antibes 17 for Beretta Famila, who out-rebounded Lattes Montpellier 37-30.
Mosch scored 20 points to lead the visitors, who had suffered a two-point defeat to Maxima Broker Kosice in their opener last week.
