Spartak Moscow Region claimed another scalp in the EuroLeague Women on Wednesday but Beretta Famila gave them a fight.
Laszlo Ratgeber's Spartak won 70-62 with Sylvia Fowles pouring in 19 points and pulling down 12 rebounds.
The Schio club hung tough and only trailed the two-time defending champions 58-53 with 1:06 left in the third quarter a jump shot by Carolina Pantani.
They got no closer the rest of the way as Spartak claimed their fifth win in six Group D games.
TEO Vilnius' surprise home defeat to Fenerbahce means that Spartak climbed into first place with the triumph.
Lauren Jackson had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Spartak won the rebounding battle 45-34 and they won despite shooting 23.5% (four of 17) from long range.
Raffaella Masciadri scored 15 points for Beretta Famila, who slumped to 1-5.
