Fightback

TEO Vilnius had been one of the EuroLeague Women's hottest teams but they endured a fourth-quarter collapse on Wednesday and were punished by Fenerbahce Wednesday.

TEO were seemingly in command with a 51-37 lead late in the third quarter but they were outscored 27-5 over the final 11 minutes and lost in Vilnius 64-56.

Turkey national team center Nevriye Yilmaz won her showdown with American star Crystal Langhorne to help Fener win the Group D showdown 64-56.

Yilmaz finished with 20 points, scoring eight in the decisive fourth quarter, and also grabbed 11 rebounds while Langhorne poured in 12 and also had 11 boards.

One of the real stars for Fenerbahce was Matee Ajavon, the Liberian-born American who played in her first EuroLeague game for the Turkish club.

Ajavon hit a jump shot late in the third quarter before Emilie Gomis came up with a steal and scored on a fastbreak to close the gap to 51-41 by the end of the third quarter.

The 22-year-old also nailed a three-ball with 1:50 remaining in the game that snapped a 56-56 tie and put the visitors in front for good.

France international Gomis, meanwhile, underlined her status as one of the leading defensive players in the EuroLeague.

She had five steals to go with her seven points and four rebounds.

TEO lost despite out-rebounding Fenerbahce 49-34.

The result has left both sides with 4-2 records.

Quotes TEO Vilnius vs.
Fenerbahce

Zafer Kalaycioglu, Fenerbahce Coach:

This was our best defense in 6 games. In the final quarter because of the good rotation of the players we did take control of the game. We had more fresh players in the decisive moments and this made the difference.

Rutenis Paulauskas, TEO Coach:

It's a pity to lose a game like that. But at the moment we have two injured players and some players with other health problems. Today there was no one to step up and take their place. It would have been a little miracle if we had won this game without having all the players.
