Gambrinus Sika Brno had a narrow escape at ESB Lille Metropole on Wednesday night in the EuroLeague Women.
Eva Viteckova poured in 22 points to lead the Czech giants to a 67-63 triumph.
Hana Horakova, formerly known as Hana Machova, had 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists but also turned the ball over nine times for last season's beaten finalists Gambrinus, who suffered a nine-point defeat at home to Umana Reyer in their opener.
Geraldine Yema Roberta hit two free throws early in the fourth quarter to put Lille into a 50-49 lead.
An 8-0 run that consisted of two Viteckova three-pointers and a Zuzana Zirkova lay-up put Gambrinus in front for good at 57-50 with 5:41 remaining.
Florence Lepron's lay-up did close the gap to 67-63 with 1:27 to go for Lille and the French had a chance to get even closer after Lepron stole the ball away from Horakova.
But Ljubica Drljaca missed a jumper and after grabbing the offensive rebound, missed again.
Horakova was then off target with a three-ball, only for Lepron to turn the ball back over to Gambrinus who settled for the four-point triumph.
Lille were 21 of 51 inside the arc compared to Gambrinus' far more efficient 19 of 35. From long range, the French were five of nine while Brno hit nine of 27.
Robert's 17 points led Lille while Drljaca chipped in 16.
