Unbeaten Umana Reyer Venezia trailed for most of the game but hit back to win 71-65 at MKB Euroleasing Sopron on Wednesday in the EuroLeague Women.
Sopron set the tone early for a thrilling game.
Australia guard Kathleen MacLeod scored seven points in a 9-0 run as the Hungarian outfit opened up a 12-4 advantage and they maintained the momentum through the first two-and-a-half quarters of play.
Midway through the third frame, Amber Holt capped an 8-0 run with a three-ball to give the hosts their biggest lead at 50-37.
They were still in front at 52-40 with 5:15 to go when Umana Reyer made their move.
Simona Ballardini, the Italy international who has been outstanding for the Venezia team this season, connected on a shot from behind the arc and then buried another three in an 11-1 run that closed the gap to 53-51.
Sopron continued to fight but Umana Reyer were not to be denied.
They took their first lead at 66-63 after Aleksandra Vujovic nailed a three-pointer with 5:30 remaining.
Sopron's Tijana Krivacevic replied with a lay-up to make it 66-65 but Vujovic hit another jumper and Massimo Riga's team did not relinquish the lead the rest of the way.
Mery Andrade had 16 points and Ballardini 12 for Umana Reyer, who improved to 6-0 in Group B.
Rebounding machine Vanessa Hayden-Johnson had 12 boards to go with her six points.
Krivacevic had a game-high 20 points in defeat.
