If ESB Lille Metropole believed they might have a chance against CSKA Moscow in the EuroLeague Women opener for both sides on Wednesday, they were sadly mistaken. Gundars Vetra's team, showing off some of the new players in the team like Katie Douglas and Janel McCarville, rolled to a 96-44 home triumph over the French team. Douglas, who joined from Ros Casares, had 20 points while McCarville, who has only recently arrived in Moscow from America where she reached the WNBA semi-finals with the New York Liberty, finished with six. The excellent Ilona Korstin finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, and Ann Wauters finished with 11 points and eight boards. CSKA led from start to finish. They opened up a 9-0 lead and had victory all but assured by the end of the first quarter, by which team they led 27-6. The Russians out-rebounded their visitors 44-22. |
