MiZo Continue Winning
Streak Against Bourges

MiZo Pecs won for the third time in five games on Thursday with a 62-58 triumph over Bourges.

Hungary international Anna Vajda, who is one of the most reliable scorers and rebounders in the women's game, had 17 points and seven rebounds to lead them.

Had Ákos Füzy's Pecs outfit been just a little more fortunate in their games against Besiktas Cola Turka and Wisla Can-Pack Krakow, they'd be undefeated but they lost both of those games by a combined three points.

As it is, MiZo are riding a two-game winning streak although next week, they go up against one of hottest teams in Group A, leaders Halcon Avenida (4-1).

That game will be in Salamanca, Spain, and Füzy's team better believe that Avenida will be looking for revenge after crashing to a 82-65 defeat in Pecs on October 16 for their lone defeat.

On Thursday, Vajda made a lay-up to put her team on top at 18-16 a little more than two minutes into the second quarter.

She didn't know it at the time, but the points nudged MiZo in front for good although Bourges never stopped fighting until the final buzzer.

MiZo's biggest advantage in the frame was at 28-18 midway through the quarter.

Vajda hit a jumper three minutes into the second half to extend the advantage to 41-29 - their biggest of the game.

They weren't able to put Pierre Vincent's team away, though.

The French giants were in control for the opening four and a half minutes of the final quarter, outscoring the hosts 11-2 to trail 52-50 and at that moment, it seemed Bourges could very easily go on and win.

Alessandra Santos, the former Brazil center, poured in seven of her game-high 20 points in the run for Bourges.

But MiZo have Miss Reliable, Vajda, who scored down low to steady the home side's nerves before captain Dalma Ivanyi nailed a jumper.

Then it was MiZo's own Brazilian international, Graziane, who hit a jump  shot for a 58-52 advantage with 1:37 to go.

Bourges, who had been flying high at 3-0 but are now 3-2, got no closer than four points the rest of the way.

Alessandra had 11 of her team's 35 rebounds. Ivanyi had seven points, eight assists and five boards for MiZo.

Quotes MiZo Pécs 2010 vs.
Bourges Basket

Nora Bujdoso, player Bourges Basket:

"I knew it would be hard. We would have liked to win but according to our coach it is not so big problem to lose the games in Salamanca and Pecs. We must win the next games and I am sure we will finish top in our group."

Pierre Vincent, coach Bourges Basket:

"It is very hard to play in Pecs. We couldn't play our game. It was difficult to keep up with the home team. Pecs was very strong."

Ákos Füzy , coach MiZo Pécs 2010:

"It was a tactical fight. Our players were full of motivation. And our fans were our sixth player again. Had we managed to stop Alessandra Santos earlier, it would have been easier."

Dalma Iványi, player MiZo Pécs 2010:

"We led for most of the time and put Bourges off their game. It was a team win."
