Hungary used a hot start to set up their first win of the EuroBasket Women qualifying campaign, beating Romania 59-46 in Medias.
The visitors got off to a flyer, using a 9-0 run capped by Emoke Furesz's three-pointer to take an 11-2 lead just a little over five minutes into the first quarter.
They continued to pour it on and a 12-2 run that extended into the second period put them in apparently total command at 25-9.
After Dora Horti ended the first half with a jump-shot, Hungary took a 36-17 lead into the locker rooms, but Romania were not done yet, and began the second half with a 9-2 run to close the gap.
Their cause was aided by some poor free-throw shooting from Hungarians, who could have made the game much more comfortable were it not for figures of four for 12 (33%) from the charity stripe midway through the third period.
Simina Mandache's three-pointer for Romania reduced the visitor's lead to 11, 51-40, at the 7:38 mark in the final quarter, but they scored the next eight points to end the home nation's challenge, finally finding their touch for free throws.
Anna Vajda led Hungary with 18 points and 13 rebounds, while Petra Ujhelyi had 13 points.
Mandache scored 17 points for Romania, who drop to 1-2, level with Hungary.
