Romanians Off To Winning Start In Group C
// 16 August 2008

Romania thrilled the home fans in Targu Jiu with a come-from-behind win over Croatia in EuroBasket Women Division A on Saturday.

A virtuoso display from Annemarie Parau led the Romanians to the 70-64 Group C victory.

Parau finished with 20 points, eight rebounds and five assists.

Maria Pascalau topped the Romanian scoring with 23 points and also pulled down seven boards.

Croatia led by as many as seven points in the third quarter and they were still in front at 58-56 with 4:36 remaining in the game after a jump shot from Petra Stampalija.

Maria Pascalau replied by burying a three-ball to put the home side in front by one and that started a 7-0 run that put Romania in front for good.

Romania enjoyed a 47-33 advantage on the boards in their first game.

Because Croatia suffered a narrow defeat at home to France in midweek, they are now 0-2 in Group C.
