Poles Through, Ease Past Finland
Poland rolled to another convincing victory in EuroBasket Women qualifying on Wednesday to stay in the hunt for a first-place finish in Group B.
The Poles won 78-47 to improve to 6-1 and keep pace with Turkey (also 6-1). Both team are already sure of a EuroBasket Women 2009 finals ticket.
Poland will be strong favorites in their final game against cellar dwellers Bosnia (1-6).
A 6-0 run by the visitors that lasted 2:51 allowed them to surge into a 15-7 advantage late in the first quarter.
Finland managed to keep the game close and faced only a 17-14 deficit early in the second quarter when the Poles landed a killer blow.
Agnieszka Bibrzycka buried a three-pointer to start an 11-0 run and the Finns never recovered.
Finland, facing a 36-24 deficit at half-time, were blown out in the third quarter 21-10.
Daria Mieloszynska ended up leading Poland with 14 points and five rebounds.
Poland out-rebounded their opponents 46-32.
Niina Laaksonen had 11 points and seven rebounds in defeat for Finland.
