GAME REPORT

Ukraine 93 Germany 39

Ukraine recorded their second win of EuroBasket Women qualifying on Wednesday with a 93-39 rout of Germany in Kiev.

Bouncing back from Saturday's loss to Lithuania, Ukraine took control of the game early behind the hot hands of Inna Yegorova and Olexandra Gurbunova and just kept it coming.

Yegorova would finish with 20 points on seven of nine (78%) shooting from the field, including four of six from three-point range.

Three other Ukrainians scored in double figures as Gorbunova and Iryna Biryuk each finished with 16 points and Olena Ogorodnikova had 15 points and 11 rebounds.

As a team, Ukraine shot 37 of 71 (52%) from the field to torch their opponents.

The barrage began midway through the first period as Ukraine reeled off a 19-3 run that continued into the second quarter.

Yegorova's three-pointer five seconds from the end of the first period put Ukraine up 25-10, and the points kept coming as the hosts outscored Germany 20-10 in the second quarter to put the result beyond doubt by half-time.

Germany sink to 0-2 in their qualifying campaign after being edged out by Israel 68-66 on Saturday.

Anne Breitreiner poured in 31 points in that game but Germany's reliance on her was exposed in Kiev as she was held to six points points on three of 15 (20%) shooting from the field.

Germany as a team shot a mere 14 of 63 (22%).

COACH QUOTES

Quotes Ukraine vs Germany

Imre Szittya, Germany head coach

"We have a very young team and not much experience. That's why the players were afraid to play here. We had a bad field goal percentage and Ukraine played very well.

"We have to play much better defense in the future games. If the opponent gets 56 rebounds and we get 30, we can never win the game. And we have to shoot better from outside".

Volodymyr Bryukhovetskiy, Ukraine head coach

"This was the first time the team executed all the aspects of the game plan. We had to limit Anne Breitreiner's chances. She scored 31 points in their last game with Israel. We played against them in a friendly game and saw what she's capable of. We managed either to deny her the ball or make her take tough shots. And she got little help from teammates.

"I can't single anyone out. Everybody played superbly. We didn't expect to win like this, but I knew it was coming someday".

Inna Yehorova, Ukraine guard

"Of course we expected to win. But we didn't expect to win like this. We remained focused up to the final seconds, which determined the outcome. The teamwork was great, we really felt united and that helped".
