Great Britain 63 Lithuania 82
// 20 August 2008

Lithuania used a decisive third-quarter run to set up a comfortable 82-63 road win over Great Britain in Cardiff on Wednesday night.

The game was tied 15-15 with 2:32 to go in the first quarter but Lithuania quickly began to pull away, going on a 12-2 run capped by Milda Sauliute's three-pointer to lead 27-17 going into the second period.

Great Britain could do little to close the gap and Lithuania's lead was back at 10, 46-36, at half-time.

The visitors then pressed home their advantage in the third quarter as Sandra Valuzyte's jump-shot sparked at 17-2 run that put Lithuania in firm control.

Valuzyte led Lithuania with 20 points while Daina Staugaitiene added 16 on six of nine (67%) shooting from the field and Diana Razmaite had 11 points. Romania shot 29 of 62 (47%) from the field as a team.

Megan Moody led Great Britain with 16 points while Johannah Leedham had 14 and Sarah McKay 10.

Lithuania improve to 2-1 after their victory over Ukraine at the weekend, but Great Britain remain winless after their opening two games.

Quotes Great Britain vs. Lithuania
// 20 August 2008

Rutenis Paulauskas, coach Lithuania:

"Because we were really troubled after our first loss and had a difficult game in Ukraine we showed better quality today.  We are happy to win away from home. Great Britain played serious basketball. They looked good and are an organised team and I feel the organisation of their coach means they have a great future.  We played as a solid unit tonight."

Daina Staugaitiene, player Lithuania:

"We did better than in our first two games. We are happy with the result. We thought they were pretty good and that their defence would be organised. We were ready for that and did a good job. I thought we moved the ball especially well around the floor and made some good shots."

Mark Clark, coach Great Britain:

"We got beaten by the best team in the group.  They were sensational in the way they moved their ball.  We showed in parts that we can compete with these teams. I said at the beginning that they would win the group and I still think that. We have a huge game on Saturday which I think will determine where we finish in the group. Jo Leedham was exceptional tonight."

Megan Moody, player Great Britain:

"It's always hard to lose especially with a good home crowd in front of you. Obviously it was a difficult loss but we can't dwell on it. We need to get back and review the video and move forward. No-one wants to lose. Saturday's game will come down to who has prepared best. We want to show everyone that we are a Division A team."
