Breitreiner, who played for Germany last year at the EuroBasket Women in Italy, buried a jumper to pull her team to within 68-66 with 52 seconds left in the game.
Doron then had her lay-up blocked by Lisa Koop but Israel grabbed the offensive rebound.
Margret Skuballa came up with a steal for the home side, though, picking Ekaterina Abramzon of Israel clean to give Germany a chance to tie or win at the end.
But Breitreiner had the ball stolen by Liad Suez Karni with four seconds remaining as the Israelis held on for the win.
Imre Szittya, head coach Germany:
"We played great tonight and were stronger than in the friendly games before. We did not lose the game in the last minute but in the first half when Israel scored 40 points. So they deserved to win."
Anne Breitreiner, Germany forward:
"The disappointment is huge as we were so close. But I'm sure that this performance tonight will give us a push for the next games."
Eli Rabi, head coach Israel:
"It was a very tough game. My players did not give up and I'm very happy about the win."
Shay Doron, Israel guard:
"The German team was very aggressive and the game was hard. We are happy that we won here in Germany with those great fans."
