Israel let a big third-quarter lead slip but managed to hold off Lithuania to win their EuroBasket Women qualifying opener 63-47 in Ramat Gan on Wednesday.
Shay Doron's free-throw with 3:25 left in the third had put the hosts 42-25 ahead, but Diana Razmaite's jumper sparked a 10-0 run that would continue into the fourth quarter and put Lithuania right back in the game.
When Agne Ciudariene split a pair of free-throws with 6:40 to go the gap was down to five points at 43-38.
The teams traded baskets and the gap was back at five, 52-47, after Razmaite's jump shot with 2:30 to go.
But Lithuania got no closer as Laine Selwyn and Ekaterina Abramzon made back-to-back lay-ups to pad Israels' lead and carry them to the finish.
Doron finished with 16 points for Israel, while Abramzon chipped in 15 points.
Razmaite led Lithuania with 10 points while Sandra Valuzyte had 16 rebounds.
