Germany Win Close Encounter At Britain
// 10 September 2008

Germany defeated Great Britain 74-72 in Cardiff, Wales, to climb off the bottom of Group A in EuroBasket Women qualifying.

German Sarah Austmann's three-pointer with just over a minute remaining gave her team victory, though Britain had a chance to tie at the end.

Megan Moody missed with a three-pointer one second from the end.

The result has left Britain at 1-6, with their only victory at Germany earlier in qualifying.

Britain, who appear likely to be headed for the relegation round, will not sleep very well after this setback.

They opened up a 62-53 advantage at the start of the final quarter but weren't able to hold the Germans at bay.

Anne Breitreiner was four of six from three-point range and had 24 points and 11 rebounds for Germany.

Germany hit 25 of 26 (96.2%) free throws on the night.
